General Practice
EdCast Medical provides a series of video courses on General Practice issues. Each of these are provided by professional bodies and delivered by highly respected experts. There are 19 courses currently available, each addressing a specific topic in depth, using a range of learning tools including video lectures with PowerPoint, video based patient/GP scenarios, equipment and procedure video demonstrations, knowledge testing using multiple choice questionning, and supporting downloadable documentation.
Courses
This course follows the general practice experience of managing a patient who has advancing breast cancer. There are twelve video scenarios which are seen through the eyes of the patient's GP. The course illustrates the realities of handling end of life care in the community.
This course focuses on allergic disease. It begins with an introduction to allergic disesase, proceeding to the diagnosis of allergy. A number of allergies are then discussed in depth, including Urticaria, Angiodema, Egg allergy, including the MMR vaccine and egg allergy, Cow's Milk allergy, Peanut allergy, and Allergic Rhinitis.
Dr Colin Kenny from the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency presents a course for general practicioners on Diabetes Type 1 and Type 2, with a view to treatment, education and management.
Professor Denis Johnston from the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency presents a course on cardiovascular disease covering Hypertension, Heart Failure, Hyperlipidaemia, Antiplatelet and Antithrombin Agents, and Ischaemic Heart Disease.
Dr Allister Taggart from the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency presents a masterclass on Rheumatology covering Diagnosing and Treatment, Problems, Pitfalls, Redflags, Fibromyalgia, Gout, and Odds and Sods.
Dr Peter Passmore from the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency presents a course on managing and diagnosing acute and chronic disease in older people, along with relevant case studies and best practices in each case.
Dr CMA Campbell from the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency presents a course on prescribing for the breastfeeding mother. Topics that are covered include choosing appropriate medicines, drug compatibility and drugs to be avoided.
Dr Heather McCluggage from the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency presents a course on the challenges of children's palliative care in the community. The course covers life-limiting conditions, available palliative services, drug licensing and dosages, issues for professionals, the delivery of service, and duties of care.
Dr Vivien Dale from the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency presents a course on the concept, indicators, features, diagnosis and management of Autism.
Dr Peter Watson from the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency presents a GI course for GPs. A number of topics are covered, including Dyspepsia (incl dysphagia), Iron Deficiency Anaemia, Lower GI problems, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Liver disorders.
Dr Hugh Webb from the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency presents a course on antibiotics, their effective use and limitations.
Professor Stuart Elborn from the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency describes the new Northern Ireland framework for respiratory conditions. He covers current knowledge and clinical practice in COPD, asthma and lung cancer.
Dr Patterson from the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency presents this course on Neurology, covering topics such as neurological symptoms, diseases and services.
Dr William Thompson from the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency presents this course on Gynaecology. Module 1 serves as an update to topical issues in Modern Gynaecology and the second module deals with the menopause, HRT and associated issues.

Dr Colin Kenny presents a course for general practicioners on Diabetes. This course focuses on diagnosing diabetes, understanding obesity and risk, managing Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and the exploration of the world's most effective diabetes service.
Dr Joe O'Sullivan presents a general tour of oncolgy, modern developments, and modern methods of cancer care. This course examines epidemiology of the common cancers, cancer biology, cancer clinical trial design, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, screening, and an overview of prostate and lung cancer.
Professor Denis Johnston considers the metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular risk. The course looks at Statin studies, risk factors in hypertension and a number of case studies.
